Mapping Disaster Risks and Pollution in Kakanj is a comprehensive research report developed through a citizen science approach, addressing the complex intersection of environmental degradation, industrial legacy, and disaster risks in one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most affected municipalities. The publication presents the results of a participatory action research process that engaged local communities as co-researchers, generating a detailed geo-referenced dataset of 197 identified risk and pollution sites. By combining community knowledge with scientific analysis, the report provides an integrated understanding of how multiple risks—such as floods, landslides, pollution, and industrial hazards—interact and reinforce each other in the context of long-term extractive industries, weak institutional oversight, and climate change.
