Dear citizens,
The Association for Research and Social Innovation (ADT), in cooperation with the civic initiative Kakanj Ustaje, is launching a public anonymous survey regarding the renewal of the environmental permit for the underground exploitation of complex ore containing lead, zinc, silver, and other metals at the “Rupice” site, operated by DP METALS BH d.o.o. Vareš (formerly Eastern Mining / Adriatic Metals BH).
The purpose of the survey is to collect information about:
-the quality of water used in your household,
-possible changes over the past three years,
-negative environmental impacts of mining on the Municipality of Kakanj, particularly on forests, soil, streams, and the Trstionica River,
-your observations, experiences, and evidence from the field.
You can complete the survey anonymously at the following link.
Citizens may also anonymously submit photographs and videos documenting pollution, changes in water quality, environmental damage, or other consequences of mining activities.
ADT will submit the complete survey results, collected evidence, and citizens’ requests to the relevant Ministry, the Municipality of Kakanj, and the public utility company JP Vodokom Kakanj on behalf of the citizens.
We also inform citizens that they can submit their official comments to the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism until 27 November 2025. The documentation and the request for the renewal of the environmental permit are available at the following link.
The documentation indicates a potential risk of heavy metal leakage into the Vrući Potok stream, which flows into the Trstionica River, posing a serious threat to:
-plant and animal life,
-water ecosystems,
-the health and safety of the local population.
Your contribution is essential so that together we can protect our rivers, forests, and the health of our children and future generations.
